Write your first job description

Your first job description! Episode 33

Episode 33 – WRITE YOUR FIRST JOB DESCRIPTION. Knowing how to write a job description is essential. Danielle is ready to hire her first employee and needs help writing a job description.

I’m ready to hire my first employee, a virtual assistant, but I need to create a job description to explain what I’m looking for. Do you have any template you can provide to help me get started? Thanks for your help.

Here is what you can do to create your first job description.

Describe your business.

Write one paragraph to describe what you do (your products or services), whom you serve (your ICA), and what your long-term goals are (are you expanding, launching a new product or service, etc.).

Summarize the job position.

Write one paragraph introducing the position, specify the location, or, in your case, the fact that it’s a remote position. I’m sure I can find an excellent virtual assistant in Australia, but because I’m based on the other side of the world, she’ll be sleeping when I’m working… so the fit won’t be perfect!

Add a brief description of the responsibilities and include a list of the day-to-day responsibilities so potential candidates can assess if they would be a good fit.

Don’t forget to add the qualifications you are looking for. Do you need a virtual assistant specializing in social media or finance? Because you want someone with specific expertise.

Give more information.

It’s time to give more information to attract the perfect candidate for your business.

A few points on why someone would want to apply for this position (you’ll work remotely – you can work from anywhere around the globe, and we offer paid medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, 401(k) with company match, and profit sharing).

You can also add colleagues who will make you laugh and support you every step of the way!

Another tip: Provide your readers with all application instructions: Give information on how you want them to apply, such as sending you an email with their resume. Maybe you also wish to have a 2-minute introduction video on why they are the perfect candidate.

Remember, hiring the right person will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Take the time to do it right.

Are you ready to create your first job description?
