Episode 9 – STOP FEELING OVERWHELMED. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, this Q&A episode is your blueprint.
Karen launched her business two years ago. She has fantastic clients, but recently she felt overwhelmed and couldn’t see how she could do everything on her to-do list before the end of the week.
I launched my business two years ago. I have fantastic clients, but recently I felt overwhelmed. I can’t see how I will be able to do everything on my to-do list before the end of the week. And please, don’t tell me to delete some items on my list; I can’t. I have deadlines to meet to deliver everything by Friday. But for the last ten days, I woke up at 1 am, with a million questions in my head and no chance of ever getting back to sleep. Any advice?
Here is what you can do.
Focus on one task at a time
Every step you take is a step in the right direction. List all the work you must do this week; concentrate on one task at a time; don’t try multitasking. By completing each job individually, you will feel less overwhelmed.
Keep an organized workspace
Our workplace has a significant effect on how we work. When our space is a mess, so are we. We lose precious minutes when searching for something on a messy desk. So keep your office organized.
Build an online community
When you have too much to do, it may be time to get help. I know you don’t want to delegate, but perhaps you can hire someone 5 or 10 hours a week to help you with your projects or other aspects of your business.
The goal is to continue to offer a fantastic service or deliver excellent products to your customers. If you’re missing deadlines often, your customers won’t be happy and may not be loyal to your brand and business.
Another tip: Learn to say NO. Train yourself to recognize when you’ve reached your limit and need to say no to a new client or a new project. If you’re saying yes to everything, you’re unable to focus your efforts on the overall success of your business.
Remember, it’s perfectly OK to admit you’re not OK. When that happens, take a step back, set a plan, and ask for help!
