Impostor syndrome

Impostor syndrome

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong? Impostor syndrome is when you feel as though at any moment you are going to be found out as a fraud — like you don’t belong where you are, and you only got there through dumb luck.

“I got lucky” or “I don’t belong here” sound familiar?

Here are tips for dealing with impostor syndrome:

  1. Know you’re not alone.
  2. Let go of your inner perfectionist.
  3. Measure your successes and celebrate your accomplishments.
  4. Talk about it with your mentor (I invest in myself, and I now call Emily by new COO – Chief Operation Officer – she was more than just a mentor for me!).
  5. Be kind to yourself.

When I have that feeling, that negative voice in my head, I take a deep breath and tell myself, “let’s get to work… and to the rest of the world… watch me!”

What about you? Have you ever felt like you don’t belong?
